This time teaming up with Ward 103 Councillor Lynda Shackleford, Ward 91
Councillor Andrew Steward, and the Director of the Sandspruit Environmental
Renewal Initiative Jill Hagley, the ASEZ WAO volunteers tackled a large illegal
dumping site in Riverwalk Sandown, Johannesburg.
ASEZ stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z,”
which means “Save the world from the beginning to the end.”
WAO stands for “We Are One Family.”
Put together, ASEZ WAO means “Let us save the earth
from the beginning to the end as one family.”
Unattended sites along riverbanks like these can quickly become sources of
severe contamination, affecting not only nearby communities but every area the river flows through. What begins in one location can ripple outward, creating widespread health and safety risks for countless people.
Situations like this highlight the urgent need for initiatives such as the ASEZ
WAO Blue Ocean Project: a global environmental effort dedicated to protecting and restoring our vital water ecosystems, including oceans, rivers, streams, and coastal areas.
