Young adults taking action for a cleaner, safer community!
On 27 July 2025, over 70 ASEZ WAO young adult workers from the World Mission Society Church of God in Bellville and Cape Town, South Africa, came together in Athlone with local community workers to participate in the Bokmakierie Canal Clean-Up, as part of the ASEZ WAO Blue Ocean Campaign.
The volunteer activity focused on raising awareness about the littering crisis, demonstrating practical solutions to environmental pollution, and encouraging community members to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. A cleaner environment also contributes to safer communities and reduced crime.
We were honoured to be supported by local leaders who joined us throughout the event:
• Councillor Rashid Adams – Ward 49 Councillor for the City of Cape Town, representing Athlone, Hazendal, Kewtown, and Bridgetown.
• Dr Zahid Badroodien – Mayoral Committee Member (MMC) for Water and Sanitation and Ward 48 Councillor for the City of Cape Town.
Their presence and hands-on support helped motivate volunteers and demonstrated the power of community–government collaboration.
Together, let’s protect our waterways and inspire cleaner, safer communities!
