ASEZ, the university student volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God, gathered on 16 October 2025 at Nelson Mandela University Nature Reserve in Port Elizabeth to remove invasive trees that threaten the local ecosystem.
The Port Jackson Willow, imported from Australia, grows at an extremely fast rate and disrupts the ecological balance within the Nelson Mandela University Nature Reserve by hindering the growth of native trees. To protect the environment of their own campus nature reserve, the students cut down the invasive trees and applied herbicide to prevent their regrowth.
Although the work was physically demanding, the students cooperated with one mind, helping one another and creating meaningful change in the local community.
This activity is part of ASEZ’s AGC (ASEZ Green Carbon) Movement, which promotes sustainable practices for climate change response and ecosystem restoration.
Through this volunteer activity, ASEZ students came to realize how important and rewarding the role of younger generations is in preserving the environment.
Watch the video to see how ASEZ’s efforts brought positive change to both the environment and community awareness. 👆🌱
