ASEZ WAO from the World Mission Society Church of God in San Diego united to restore the environment by clearing out invasive species. The event’s goal was to restore the area’s natural habitat and lower the risk for wildfires.
Around 150 enthusiastic ASEZ WAO volunteers and their colleagues united to restore the environment by removing black mustard at Los Peñasquitos Canyon in San Diego. Through their united determination, they successfully collected about 207 bags of black mustard.
ASEZ WAO, stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z, We Are One Family“. The volunteer group has the determination for “Worker’s Protection of Life on Land” and through this event was a contribution to ASEZ WAO’s Mother’s Forest Campaign.
Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is located north of the San Diego county. Many San Diego locals visit the preserve to enjoy hikes and the beautiful waterfalls. Every year from February to May, California’s grasslands are challenged by the growth of an invasive plant species, called “black mustard“. The Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve is no exception as the area becomes surrounded by black mustard.
The plant looks like a yellow flower; however, it is a weed which endangers the environment. The invasive plant releases chemicals that hinder other plants from growing. The plant also creates wildfire fuel when it dries out, which makes it especially dangerous in the summer. ASEZ WAO gathered in pursuit of this invasive species.
Equipped with gloves and tools, the volunteers spread out across the site to uproot and collect large patches of black mustard.
Emma Siglock, a member of ASEZ WAO, stated, “By working together, we hope to create a better-balanced ecosystem and promote a healthier environment for the local wildlife.”
The dedication of the young adult workers inspired guests and government officials, proving that positive change begins with a single, caring action.
ASEZ WAO received an award from California’s State Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones.
This ASEZ WAO event was broadcast 14 times across 4 San Diego news channels, and one radio station. San Diego’s ABC 10 News also wrote a news article about the event. Overall, the news resulted in over 500,000 local views.
The ASEZ WAO members are committed to being a beacon of light in San Diego as the workplace prophets. The church will continue to conduct good deeds to shine Heavenly Mother’s glory across San Diego County.
