In the Old Testament, the Day of Firstfruits was kept by waving a sheaf of the first grain on the day after the Sabbath. In the New Testament, it changed into the Resurrection Day celebrating Jesus’ resurrection as the firstfruits.
Jesus’ disciples of the early Church were shocked and lost in grief after Jesus died on the cross, but they could regain faith, courage, and strength through Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus gave all humankind the living hope of resurrection.
The reason believers can smile even in this tough world is that Jesus’ resurrection gave hope of salvation to them who were chained to death and because they have confidence that they will be changed beautifully like an angel and go to heaven in the future.
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed ... 1 Corinthians 15:51
