As it is written, “[E]veryone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,” and as Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must . . . take up their cross and follow me,” a brief moment of suffering is bound to follow the lives of all who live for the glory of the kingdom of heaven.
Esau and Judas Iscariot lived according to the flesh, pursuing the pleasures of sin, and ultimately lost the blessings of the kingdom of heaven. However, Moses, Jacob, Daniel, and his three friends overcame hardships by valuing the pleasures of heaven more highly. Likewise, the members of the Church of God place their hope in the pleasures of heaven promised by God, devoting themselves to preaching the blessings of the new covenant Sabbath day and the Passover, just as He commanded.
By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Hebrews 11:24–26
