The Day of Firstfruits in the Old Testament is the Resurrection Day in the New Testament. It is a prophecy that was to be fulfilled on Sunday.
It was on the first day of the week that the Israelites landed on the other side of the Red Sea after coming out of Egypt. God appointed this day as the Day of Firstfruits, and had the Israelites keep it on the day after the Sabbath (Sunday) every year. Jesus was resurrected on the first day of the week (Sunday), fulfilling the prophecy of the Day of Firstfruits.
According to the prophecy of the Day of Firstfruits, when a sheaf of the first grain was offered to God, Jesus was resurrected as the firstfruits of those who had fallen asleep and gave the hope of resurrection to all mankind. Believing this, the Church of God celebrates the Resurrection Day every year.
The LORD said to Moses, “. . . bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath.”
Leviticus 23:9–11
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. . . . “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”
